Movie The Messenger premiering on November 20th, explores a very difficult subject that we don’t often hear about. We learn about two soldiers assigned to the the US Army’s Casualty Notification service where it is their duty to inform families that their loved one was killed in battle. Movies that focus on the military have covered a wide array of topics, but for the first time we are faced with seeing something so intimate and personal that actually may make us uncomfortable at times. The movie advertisement quotes: “the film reveals itself as a surprising, humorous, moving and very human portrait of grief, friendship and survival.”
I will be going to a screening on Monday, 11/9 that includes a Q&A session with the director and one of the leads. After checking out the trailer and learning more about the movie if you have questions please tweet me @majastevanovich and I will be sure to ask them during the Q&A session. Be on the lookout for a blog post that talks about the movie in greater detail. I am very curious to see what the portrayal of the American soldier will be as well as the families struggling through a great loss.
