The Army has been getting a reputation of being tech savvy, especially when it comes to social media. In the latest rendition, the Army is exploring the value of providing Soldiers digital applications on hand-held devices (smart phones) for education and training, administrative functions, reference, and selected operational support. The applications vary from being focused on Initial Military Training to advanced individual training and using the apps to help enhance the training.
The Army launched several pilot projects, using a variety of smart phones, to evaluate applications for training. Helping foster a persistent learning environment, digital applications offer a flexible approach to training and information access.
The next phase will assess the value of digital apps for tactical operations. Exploring technology to help soldiers perform their missions more effectively is time wisely spent by the Army. It is interesting to think of mobile devices and apps as actually having impact in real life situations for those serving.
Those of us that use the apps for entertainment are in the majority. It is truly remarkable where technology is taking us-hopefully the apps and mobile devices that Army chooses to go with will be of service to those that deserve all the help they can get.
