Department of Defense Serious About Social Media

By releasing the above video and launching the Department of Defense has made a bold move when it comes to social media, by launching the DoD Social media hub they are declaring the medium is here to stay.

This is a big step for the military community. Even though there have been many participants in the sphere in all the branches, for the first time Soldiers, Airmen, Marines, Sailors and Coast Guardsmen are invited, even encouraged to share their stories, to tell the great story that each of them live through each and every day just by serving our country.

The signs that this was coming were evident through various social media policies that have been released in the recent months. It is a wise move by the military to encourage its greatest assets, its personnel to do the storytelling as there is nobody out there that can tell the story better than those going through it. Perhaps the American public will gain a better understanding and perspective on those serving and what service looks like on through the stories of those living it.

Progress is certainly being made. I’m glad to see the effort being made to train people to use this tool properly and safely. Keep up the great work on the blog and on the job.

Nice that the military has found some value in social networking.
